I have an MSc Degree in Marine Aquaculture, Bachelor Degree in Marine Science, and currently a PhD candidate in Social Science at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah. My current research interest is in the island and coastal communities’ resilience to the change in social-ecological landscape. This interest started when I was working for WWF-Malaysia, developing alternative or sustainable livelihood options for the coastal communities within the currently largest marine park in Malaysia, the Tun Mustapha Park (TMP). I have also conducted a seagrass and sea cucumber monitoring/survey in TMP for a project funded by Asian Development Bank. Apart from that, I was trained by the Sabah Fisheries Department in Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM), and ever since I have been applying this approach in any of my work related to the coastal communities and development. I am also running a non-profit organization as the Chairperson, the Kudat Turtle Conservation Society focusing on educating and empowering the local coastal communities in protecting the population of sea turtles in TMP using the EAFM approach.
