KM joined Plymouth Marine Laboratory as Communications Officer in 2006, having studied Graphic Design at Falmouth College of Arts and worked at a TV production company and regional newspaper. In 2015 she was awarded a promotion to Senior Communications Officer and obtained her MSc in Science Communication with Merit, focusing on stakeholder engagement best-practice and the changes in newsroom practices by science journalists since the growth of social media. Capabilities include: science writing, public relations, website development, social media, print production, video/audio production, photography, information architecture, graphic design. As well as corporate work, KM has led or been involved in publicity and knowledge exchange activities for a number of UK and European marine science research programmes, such as the UK Ocean Acidification Research Programme (http://www.oceanacidification.org.uk/), Marine Ecosystems Research Programme (http://www.marine-ecosystems.org.uk/), European Project on Ocean Acidification (http://www.epoca-project.eu/) and ShellEye (http://www.shelleye.org/). KM is also a Trustee for the SeaWatch Foundation (http://www.seawatchfoundation.org.uk/).
