Rahim obtained a doctorate from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in protected areas planning and management. A wildlife ecologist, focusing works on protected areas in the Asian region, and habitats management for large mammals in Sabah. A Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM), member of IUCN-WCPA and the Regional Coordinator (Asia) for Transboundary Conservation Specialist Group (TBC-SG) of IUCN-WCPA. Previously employed by DANCED/DANIDA, UNEP, IUCN, GTz and WWF for projects in Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal, Vietnam and Kampuchea. Been involved with reviewing and field evaluations for World Heritage sites and ASEAN Heritage Parks in the Asian region. Currently leading the designation of marine protected areas (MPAs) in Sabah towards achieving Aichi Target 11, and also a 5-year initiative on patrolling (enforcement & monitoring) in DaMaI (Danum-Maliau-Imbak) Rainforest Complex in Sabah.
