The UK partners of Blue Communities recently met at Plymouth Marine Laboratory to share progress, explore cross-cutting activities and discuss plans for the upcoming programme-wide Annual Progress Meeting, being held in Plymouth from 5th – 16th August 2019.

The agenda was once again a full day of talks and interactive sessions to help tease out opportunities and common challenges across the twelve projects that make up Blue Communities.

A key theme from the discussions was the importance of having a detailed understanding of the governance in your cast study area, both locally and nationally. Other interesting topics that emerged included the similarities between marine planning issues in the UK and SE Asia and how locally-managed areas appeared to fare better relating to sustainability and resident well-being.

The UK team will now be preparing to host the Blue Communities partners from SE Asia in August and are looking forward to providing overseas colleagues with a informative and valuable experience in the UK.
