Matt is a research fellow interested in resilience, environmental governance and development. On the Blue Communities project, he will develop institutional and trade-off analysis tools that can support transitions to sustainable and just models of marine planning in South East Asia. Prior to this, Matt led projects at the University of Exeter on understanding resilience to the effects of El Niño in coastal Kenya, and the relationship between coastal ecosystem services and gender. His PhD from University College London explored transformations in marine governance in the Philippines. Outside of academia, Matt has advised many international NGOs and UN agencies on climate resilience, disaster risk reduction and natural resource management, and he founded Bristol’s largest sustainability network, Ecojam. He enjoys splashing around in the sea.
